Thanksgiving Weekend Recap

So here's our weekend recap for y'all!

Friday we stayed in and cleaned up. Ryan made his apple chutney for Thanksgiving because he had class for a couple of hours on Saturday. Plus he got all of the components of his cornbread and sausage stuffing ready. Then we went to the DVD store and bought the next, and last, season of West Wing so we'd have something to do on Sunday. Keep reading to find out about Sunday.

Saturday we got up and Ryan put his stuffing together. He left for class and the madness began. I started cooking at about 9:30 and it was a race against the clock. I made an apple tart, pumpkin bread pudding, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. Everything turned out great and was delicious. Sebas and Laura came over around 2, although we didn't leave until about 2:30 and we didn't get to Grant's until about 2:45. There were about 15 people there and we had a fantastic time. The turkey was moist and tasty and everyone else's dishes we're excellent. For the most part it was all pretty American cuisine! Thanksgiving is a fun holiday to share with non Americans!

We spent the day at Grants, eating and chatting. We played a game and visited over coffee and cocktails. And then we were home by 9pm. Ryan and I were both so stuffed that we had to lay down immediately and I think we were asleep before 10pm.

Sunday we had the census. Just like in America, they do the census once every 10 years. But their method is completely different. The President issued a law for the weekend saying that it was a dry weekend, meaning no alcohol should be sold and none should be consumed. Plus on Sunday from 7am until 5pm every person must remain in their homes. A school girl came to our house around 3 and asked us some questions. She filled out her paperwork and then put a sticker on our door. I felt like it was Passover. The questions were interesting too.

Do you have running water?
What is your house built out of?
Do you have floors or dirt?
Do you have a designated area to go to the bathroom, to cook and to bathe?
Have you used the internet, a cell phone, or cable in the last 6 months.

All very interesting things. And then it was over. Ryan and I spent most of the day playing with Chuki, holding Chuki and watching West Wing. We made a new rule for our house: Sunday is not a day to clean. Sunday is a day to have fun, spend time together and relax. I always feel really guilty about not cleaning on Sundays and going into the week with a clean house, clean clothes and a full refrigerator. But with this new rule, it kind of gives me an opportunity to really relax. I like it!

And that was our weekend. I can't believe that we'll be home next week! How crazy is that? Where did 11 months go? Seriously? Sebas told us that because of Pico y Placa (a driving restriction to help reduce rush hour traffic) that he'll have to come get Chuki on Monday. WHAT? I'm so thankful that he's taking Chuki while we're gone but that means we only have ONE WEEK with the pupsters before we leave! I can't believe it.

Anyways, we have a lot to get done before we come home. We need to buy gifts, get our linens washed, do a lot of laundry, pack, cook for Chuki, have our clothes tailored, and finalize plans with friends and family at home! We can't wait to see you all!

MULUB,
Taylor
